Divorce - 4/5 year query

Hoping someone can clarify this for me. Spouses are eligible for divorce of they have lived apart for 4 of the previous 5 years. I get this, so if they separate fully for 4 years in total, you can proceed to divorce.

However if they are married and separate very early on how does it work? Does this mean you have to be married a minimum of 5 years? Ie if you separate after 2 months you can't have been apart for 4 of the previous 5 years when you're married 4 years 2 months, since the previous 5 years includes almost year you were not married... Therefore you need to wait 5 years minimum?
