being on here has definitely made me more accepting of contrary opinions that completely oppose mine, no matter how extreme. being exposed to so many at the one time does that to you. its an education of sorts, an insight into the irish mindset on matters both trivial and serious.

Ach now, you don't honestly believe boards represents the Irish mindset do you?

Because of boards, I've met some absolutely great friends, and also my girlfriend of nearly 4 years, so I'd say it's been a pretty positive influence on my life ;)

Been on it nearly 10 years, found it by complete accident - I wouldn't say it has "helped" me (I guess apart from honing discussion techniques - e.g. not expressing opinion as fact etc), there have actually been some negatives from it tbh, but feck it, I can draw a line under all that.

There's been positives too obviously or I wouldn't still be here, it's a great website and miles better than any other discussion platform. Tried a few times to leave it and always came back. Don't take it too seriously now, which is key to enjoying it I think.

 Boards is probably useful. AH on the other hand...

Most of the advice that I have sought over the years on Boards I have ignored and gone with my instinct; to costly results sometimes.

It's made me profoundly grateful that I don't actually know what most people I encounter in real life are actually thinking.

It generally makes most people less accepting of other people's opinions, I personally haven't agreed with anyone on this site for years.

    Glazers Out!

Yep, quite a lot. I started a thread in the Cork City forum around this time two years ago looking to get a game of 6-a-side soccer. A few people posted also looking to get a game until eventually we had enough to kick off a completely new game consisting of people who had never met each other before!

It started off as just one evening a week, grew into two evenings, and is now at three evenings. We have approximately 30 players playing over three nights, three sets of training vests, had a number of nights out from extra money collected and have another due.

The games will be running for two years this June!

    Yay!

We play in the south side. The north side is far too dangerous for us delicate lambs. :)

Yep, met some terrific people in real life after chatting and interacting with them on here. We meet up as often as we can and I'd consider myself very close to them.

I find it helps me order my thoughts. When I write on here - and then rewrite and rewrite if it is a longer post - it helps me think through things - order those thoughts - make connections between them I might not otherwise have made.

Especially when I am writing on things that are unusual or different about me that I do not have many other sources of reference or comparison for. And then seeing the reactions of others to those things - especially questions from those people which cause me to think and writer further.

So yea - it has certainly being a useful tool in my thinking tool box on many issues.

    Many times.

The Canada forum helped me hugely in getting to where I am. Would never have been able to sift through all the info out there and probably would have wasted loads of money.
