Thread needs a poll..the voting kind.

I find them to be eyesores and a massive waste. I'd be less likely to vote for someone who is bombarding the country with posters and leaflets.

Of course, I wouldn't be less likely to vote for either side in a referendum because of posters. That would be silly but I still don't like seeing them everywhere.

Some candidates in the recent past have decided against putting them up, and tbh I admire that. They're nothing but hassle, litter and vehicles with which to stoke the egos of those running.

Where else would they put them?

Does this question need an answer?

Thats the idea of political propaganda. Its shoved down your neck from every angle. Ya cant look or go anywhere without an ingrained memory of some stuck up politician smiling accompanied by Vote No 1 and more false promises. Probably smiling at the bit fat pension their going to have under their hole when they retire. Makes me sick tbh.

They should all be ejected from Parliament and place a Rabbit in charge of the country instead and maybe Ming the Merciless too as assistant. Goodness knows it would prob do a better job

Here in Kilkenny we have a by election for extra rubbish on poles as if the Yes/No posters weren't bad enough.

The UK election is in just over a week and I haven't seen a single poster around Edinburgh.

Don't see the point of it in this day and age. That Gallagher lad nearly went from unknown to president without them.
If a business cant advertise themselves wherever they want why can politicians?

most of the candidates here in the south that didn't put them up didn't get elected, it's typical with the out of sight out of mind attitude that prevails...

likewise a few candidates for the locals did some door to door polling, and a high percentage of those asked said they wouldn't vote for someone who couldn't be arsed knocking on their door, or having leaflets ready for them to read later "what the politician is about"

Pretty sure they can only post posters 24 hours before the election

They seem like such a waste to me and the sight of them genuinely makes me angry, aside from the wastefullness and the eyesore, they just seem so out of date.
What the hell are you supposed to learn about a politician from what is essentially a glorified passport photo on a lamp post? ah sure why bother engaging with the people you want to represent just stick a few pictures of yourself around the place....it's so fcuking lazy!!

I like when they change the colour of the poster to try and fool you into thinking they belong to a different party.

If it didn't work they would not do it

Theres something erotic about seeing a referendum poster being erected on those tall, thick, hard poles.

If they banned them where then would I get hen house insulation and craft material? Or in the case of posters with pics of ugly politicians...scarecrows..

Yeah some politico was speaking about this on the radio the last time there was an election and said that studies have shown there is a direct correlation with the number of telephone poles you can get your gurning mug up on and how many votes you eventually get on the day. Sad to think that for many people it's as simple as "Oh look, he/she looks presentable / his or her father was a TD too be god / he or she must be great with all the posters they have up.................lets give them a vote"

In this day and age, we should ask why do we even need poles?
    Nightvision goggles for all!!

Or when they make the logo of a discredited political party on a poster so tiny that you'd need a magniflying glass to see it.

The reason they put them on the Poles is because they're the only ones that will do the job.
