having just watched this on tv3 i'm fairly annoyed with regard to the family living in the hotel.

they were offered two places but they didn't meet their high standards and so turned them down. I think its disgraceful that they are still being put up in the hotel.
they were offered a place in thomondgate but turned it down because there was a leak and it was going to take a couple of weeks to fix.

and they were offered a place in askeaton yes its a bit outside the city but it was a house none the less. they turned it down because its too far and they would have to move the kids to a new school.

i hate to be blunt but they should be thrown out of the hotel this carry on of being picky about where they get a house. beggars cant be choosers

How big was the leak that would take weeks to fix?

Isn't it the case that you can move or defer two options on social housing before being stuck with your third option or put back to the bottom of the list?

Not to validate their position (I think if someone is offered a house while really stuck, they should be grateful and take what they can get) but if they've only turned down two places, they're still merely exploiting an existing condition.

If you are offered a house and you refuse it you shouldn't be given any further financial assistance

I watched it and I felt sorry for the young man who was trying to better himself yet had no home to go to. It's a disgrace that he was on the streets. And a disgrace all the boarded up accommodation that should be developed for housing.

On the other hand the long term unemployed couple who refused 2 houses.... Maybe be that fussy when ye are paying for your own accommodation through work. As long as the houses they were being given were safe then they should have been thankful. Instead they forced their 2 children to live in a hotel room for 3 months, costing the taxpayer 108 per night until they get what housing they deem suitable.

i agree that young man is a credit to himself for turning his life around
hes exactly the type of person who should benefit of the system.
he genuinely wants to move away from the dole and support himself

House I am renting is in process of bank selling it.

I can not find anything at all within budget and I do not get a cent off anyone for to pay.

I work shift and long hours and have nothing at the end of the week.

    Who will help me?????

Nobody of course I'll just have to move even further away from work.
I have been pushed out of Dublin and now Wicklow is as or not far off on extortionate rental rates if you can find a property.
I get no rent relief(tax relief)
No rent allowance/supplement whatever its called these days as the name keeps changing.

    Where was Willies gun ???

What a joke of a programme.
We need houses been built or ones already there taken over by councils to get things down.

Property bubble back in nearly full swing and its at the point if your renting you can't save to buy as your paying out more then a mortgage.

I know Jamie. He IS a credit to himself. He had very good reasons for refusing to go into drug-ridden hostels. He wants to leave drugs behind him. As for the other family - looks like they want it handed up on a plate to them. Would like to know why either of the parents are not working/looking for work.

    Vote yes for equality?

I keep seeing that slogan everywhere.

I presume this is what people are on about.

It was like a promo for Fianna Fáil. Geraldine leddin ran for Fianna fail the last time. It was farcical willie giving all wrong advice and Geraldine like a bloody angel which was an even bigger joke having dealt with Geraldine before. Jamie was fab young fella in fairness. The other two were just out and out whingers.
