Sorry, thought they were going to do a piece on the subject. They just went through two incidents of aggravated car key theft. One was used for a failed cash van robbery.

Mods, feel free to delete unless people want to discuss.

Scary stuff, it's not like they were supercars. Slate grey average 3 series BMW. Quickish but inconspicuous for a cash van robbery I guess.

I have a large, big engined car I'm always leaving unlocked. My wife goes nuts at me!

    Talk about idiot thieves.
They attempted to steal first car - didn't know how to start it . Ran off without car
They went to steal car at another house and were outside with the keys for the wrong car and had to go in again for bmw keys.
They then used bmw to rob cash van only for the dye explosive to go off while driving away and they ended up just dumping it.

I know. And they literally terrorised people to get the keys (kids included). Shocking stuff. I used to keep the car keys upstairs with me when I was single, fit, strong and capable. I posted here on boards.ie about it! I'm still fit and strong, but now I have kids now, things change. I honestly can't find the keys for myself every morning!

I have good household security, strong modern reinforced door, alarm, modern windows, the back of the house is secure and we keep the place locked up etc... but these guys are knocking on the front door at reasonable hours of the day/night.. I'd answer the door at 7pm expecting a neighbour or a family member.

Had a few break ins in my area over the last few weeks. Caught four in the act two nights ago in my elderly neighbours house, chased and ran them down whilst on the phone to the Gardai. Non Dublin, overweight, Irish ethnic minorities traveling around looking for opportunities.

Would there be anything to be said about getting blank keys off ebay and sticking them inside your door, not in view but easily accessible in a break in.

That would only make them madder.

If you mean members of the travelling community, they are not an ethnic minority, they are as Irish as the rest of us.

They want to be labelled as an ethnic minority so that they can use ethnicity as an excuse for their 'lifestyle', a claim that should be rejected at every opportunity.
