My wife was in a Motor accident and has to put in a personal injury claim as she's out of work because of it, I'm not sure whether we need to get a Solicitor or do I just put in a claim with the Personal injuries board ?

    Any advice appreciated

If your wife intends to proceed with a claim she will have to submit it to the Injuries Board regardless of whether she has a Solicitor or not. The injuries Board application is quite straightforward and the services of a Solicitor is not necessary, that is your choice. I recommend contacting the Injuries Board by phone and they will guide you through the application process. If the application is subsequently not assessed by the Board, your wife will then have to apply to Court if she wishes to proceed with the claim and at that stage she may need representation.

It would be worthwhile to get a solicitor at this stage to ensure, inter alia

    1. That you have the right defendant

    2. That defendant is insured and that the insurer is on cover for that accident

    3. Unless liability is fully admitted in writing, to consider any necessary examinations of the vehicles involved and of the scene
