    Hi,

    I am just in the middle of booking a band and I am wondering if I need to do or get anything?

    I have confirmed the date and venue and going to pay deposit in the next day or two.

    Is there anything else I'm missing? Is there anything I should get off the band apart from a receipt?

    Cheers.

    Ed

    One thing to ask would be about first dance songs

    Do they have a set list you need to choose from or will they do something you want? If teh latter then you will need to settle on that well before the day and let them know so they can go learn/practise it?

    if its the former and you have a song you really want but they don't do just have it as the last song by the DJ instead!

    How long are they going to play for? Are they going from 9pm-11pm or will play for 2 hours? Seems a silly question but if they have a set time as in 9-11 and your speeches etc run over then they will still stop at 11 no matter what time they started.

    This is certainly true for some bands, most bands are easy going and say sure whatever time you finish speeches at we'll start setting up and do the 2 hour set. Its the nature of the job. Some bands go the other way and say youve booked us from 9-11. OP, Find out which band you got by asking them.

    Just ask them if they play first dances, some have a go and shouldnt, pro bands will know the difference, if they can do a song justice they will. They'll play it on cd/mp3 otherwise, its not a big thing. You may change your mind on the night itself (seen it happen)

    Once you pay the deposit, most certainly get a receipt in either paper or email form to say something like
    Deposit of X paid by <yourname> for band <band name> to perform at wedding of <B&G> on the <date> at <venue name>
    balance due on night in cash/cheque = Y.

    Performance to include any of what youve booked them for
    <church music>
    <pre dinner entertainment>
    <post dinner reception entertainment of around 2 hours>
    < DJ until 2am or bar close/music licence ends>

    Band may include something like "Deposit is non-refundable if booking cancelled X months from the performance date stated above." or "Deposit is non-refundable". Depends on the band.
