"Speeding" fine

I recently received a notice of speeding fine from An Garda Siochana to say i was caught "speeding" on Ballybough Road last week. I have redriven the road and there is no signs to state the speed limit on that road and i was caught doing 60 in a 50 zone (which i thought was 60).

My reason for posting is to see if anyone knows if there might be a loophole where i might be able to appeal on the basis of no speed limit signs being up. How was i to know the speed limit if there are no signs and i actually thought the limit would be 60 as it is two lanes on either side of the road? They say its a built up area though.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/roads_and_safety/road_traffic_speed_limits_in_ireland.html
Town and city speed limits (50 km/h)

A speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour is in place in built-up areas (other than motorways or special speed limit zones).
    Special speed limits (30 km/h or 60 km/h.)

Special speed limits are sometimes applied to designated roads and zones (mainly, for example, on roads on the outside of built-up areas, around schools, etc.). Special speed limits are generally for 30 km/h or 60 km/h. Local authorities in Ireland have the power to introduce bye-laws to set special speed limits in designated areas. Read more about powers of local authorities here.

No signs then 50 km/h is the limit

I assume Ballybough Road is in a city somewhere.
It's always 50 within city limits unless otherwise stated so you can remove the quotation marks around speeding :D

Could be this one in Dublin (Google maps), if so then I'm amazed how anyone could assume it to be a 60km/h zone.

Same here tbh there are plenty of roads in the city centre with multiple lanes at tthat same speed limit

Am I right in thinking the quays have a slower limit?

Only a small section of the quays are 30km/h -- see attached image from map already linked to by another poster, pink area is 30km/h
