Polish Building Materials

Hi all, I am after hearing from a friend that building materials in Poland is less than half the cost of materials here in Ireland. I am currently in the process of building a house and like many I am trying to get the best prices possible; however I will not compromise on quality. With this in mind has anyone any experience with polish building materials as in buying, transporting them home and are U values of the likes of insulation and plasterboard the same or similar to here at home. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

    'a friend' ?

Get a full spec, check the small print (..in English...), terms of warranty, cost of shipping, and then go from there.

I've seen both good & bad imports (from many places) over the years, and usually if it sounds too good to be true, well then.............

Oh, and, make sure you DC/AC is onboard with it as well.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't really answer what I am looking for. Do you about U values off plasterboard or insulation used in Poland. You seem to be telling me to ask questions I've just asked!!!!!?

The issue is will your AC/DC sign off if the paperwork is not to their liking, in terms of what I think is at the CE marking.

This is the key point: all the rest you can establish online

Galwaytt is spot on in his response

take an Irish product look at its CE data sheet. Then take a polish product and its CE data sheet and you compare.
Then if the product stacks up in U-values, lifespan guarantee etc etc you take it to your AD/AC and they will determine if it's acceptable
    Best of luck

+1 the above but also note that plumbing fittings and the like do not match exactly with irish fittings so you would need check and get adaptors if necessary

Well you made a sweeping statement that building materials in Poland are 'half the price'. They're not. Maybe 'cheap' quality ones are, but is that what you want ? There's an example of an estate near me where the windows & doors came from Poland. In fairness they all looked, and felt, fantastic. 9 years down the road and all the front doors will have to come out, which is a €€€€ job, as the uPVC used all faded and cracked due to UV exposure.

Conversely I have used windows from Latvia and they are the dogs'. But they weren't 'cheap'.

If you don't know what quality you want, or what spec you want, then how do you know what you're getting/looking at ?

The choices in Poland are the exact same as here: you can buy quality, or not, as you please, and that's (usually) reflected in the amount you pay.
