People Who Don't Move Up In A Traffic Q ....... Why!?!

Had a situation this afternoon while driving home from work .......... rush hour traffic as usual and even worse on Fridays so was in the expected crawl along scenario.
The car in front of me just didn't move until there was at least 60 feet between him and the car in front of him ........... this absolutely annoys the s*** out of me ........... why do people do that? Don't they know how inconsiderate and selfish this is or do they just not care??
Anyway, this idiot in front of me today was just taking the total p*** .......... at one point there was at least 6 car lengths between him and the car in front so I pulled out (the lane was clear), overtook him and pulled back in in front of him ......... he was all flashing lights, car horn and driving right up to my rear bumper (ironically!) which I ignored for the first 2 minutes or so until I got out of my car to ask him what the problem was ....... he quietened down at that point.

So my questions are ......... are you one of those people? If so, why do you do it??

Also, am I alone in being so irritated by this??

No you are not alone, just another idiot on the road. Well done on passing him out though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭rosb

I wonder how people can be so unaware on the roads. Especially if them moving up would facilitate a car getting out of a side road. It's like they are in a world of their own.

    What difference does it make?
    You're going nowhere.

    Chill baby.

Well done you where dead right. That idiot probably doesn't have the brains to realise that further back there is probably a junction or roundabout that isn't moving because of him.

It drives me nuts, especially when it causes people further back to miss getting through a set of lights. It's just a huge lack of consideration for others.

Another thing that annoys me is people who stop at lights or maybe a car length or two back from the car in front and spend the next 2-3 minutes inching their way forward, constantly stopping and starting.

My car's engine automatically cuts out when you stop at lights but then these eejits keep moving up and that causes me to either have to leave a gap or leave the engine running the whole time as the cut out function only works again after driving over a certain speed. I appreciate that this is a first world problem so I make an effort to not let it get to me.

Your attitude behind the wheel sounds far ****tier than his, TBH.

That usually happens when someone is distracted, liken using their phone, eating, getting head etc.

Did they look like they were distracted at points when they were not progressing?

It makes a world of difference, not all of the cars in the Q are going to the same destination .......... some want to turn off left or right or just get in/out of a side road which they can't because some idiot in the Q further up is using up 60 to 80 feet of road for no apparent reason.

Happened to me earlier. I was in traffic and went onto my phone to tweet and whatever and next thing some pr1ck overtakes me and as soon asi pulled up behind him to make him awRe of what he done by beeping at him he gets out and terrifies me by jumping out of the car and shouting if I had a problem.

I disagree. The car in front was showing no consideration for anyone else and gave an opportunity to be overtaken and then started throwing his toys out of the pram when someone had the nerve not to just sit there and accept his behaviour.

Nope, happily sat there until he was good and ready to move without even a moments consideration for anybody else in the Q .......... did this constantly for over 25 minutes so it was no "accident".

There's a difference if it happened once, it's easy enough to daydream when sitting in traffic but there are some people who just do this constantly for some selfish reason?

Nope not stressed just amazed that in this day and age no matter how much the RSA pay on adverts trying to educate people there is still people on our roads with your attitude.

What about the people we hope are behind you who are trying to get through a junction or off a roundabout? ?

    I'll allow a space simply because I hate that moving forward 6 feet...then 7 feet...then 6 feet...then 8 feet....every 10 seconds...22 seconds...16 seconds.

Sounds like neither of ye covered yourselves in glory there. You have to concede overtaking was a bit provocative, even if you feel he was.

I firmly believe that at least 50% of rush hour traffic is down to lazy unattentive driving. I mean, it's not hard to figure out a traffic light sequence but I see so many people who act like it's a surprise when they get a green light. Is it that hard to pay attention when you stop at a red instead of drifting off into dreamland?

I've witnessed people getting blown out of it for being a bit slow off the mark. Drivers holding down the horn continuously until the car in front moves up. Nice bit of entertainment to view when your stuck in traffic, especially if it sparks a bit of an argument between the drivers.

Ive been know to leave maybe up to 1 space in a situation where traffic is so sht I may want to keep the option to turn around.

6 is most unusual however. Best guess he was having some kind of problem with the car, needed a short run of distance to confirm a theory.

Maybe he foresaw breaking down and was trying to find a good spot with access/egress for a tow truck.

But yes, overtake, he is guilty of buffoonery. Any deviation from the normal flow may be considered as le buffoonery.

It's been stated already that there could have been cars further back in the que stuck at a junction or roundabout because of this idiot. It's also been stated that if you do this in your test you will fail.

The only person with a ****ty attitude is the dope who wont move his car forward into space.

Afterall I didn't take his spot, I took the spot in front of him that he didn't seem interested in using! :)

Some idiots would rather drive slowly continuously than keep up with the car in front of them

If traffic is moving at a slow enough crawl to allow me to hang back a bit and make some consistent progress in first gear, I'll do that instead of ... engage gear, move up 3 inches behind the next car's bumper, wait.... repeat. Love the clutch OP!

It is annoying having to go/stop every few seconds but I'd rather do that than be inconsiderate of the other people behind me in the Q .............

    Sure.

You got out of your car, in traffic, to confront a driver behind you because you didn't like the fact that he was flashing his lights at you and beeping his horn. So you (a) presumably left your own car driverless as an obstacle in the middle of the road, and (b) created an environment where something could have kicked off if the other driver was big enough and thick enough to get out of his car and meet you head on.

The other driver's behaviour might be aggravating, sure. But your own isn't something we should all aspire to live by either.

Well (a) your presumption is wrong as I didn't hold up any traffic for the 3 seconds I was out of my car and (b) I'm not afraid to stand up to idiots/bullies ........ the reason we have so many idiots is because too few people pull them up on their antics and the reason we have so many bullies is because too many people are afraid to confront them on it but don't worry, I'll do the dirty work and you can reap the benefits. :)

A car length seems reasonable to me. If I'm on the M50 during rush hour with a merging lane on the left I leave more for merging cars although they usually keep going and leave it till the last second.
