    Hi

We will be in New Zealand North island from 20th July for a week and need to plan out what we will do. On our list is the Lord of Rings sites but apart from that nor sure.

Looking for advice on the must sees and must dos. Are there any big events on that week. Should we stay in Auckland and hire a car to get around or should we stay elsewhere? If we are doing Lord of Rings where is it, do we do an organised tour?

Also i know it is winter there so what sort of clothing will we need? Is it thick jumpers and coats or ordinary ones with a rain jacket?

    All advice welcome. Can't wait!

    Hire a car.

Weather can be okay or terrible. Likely to be a mixed bag- pack for an Irish winter and you'll be fine.

Plenty to do- Auckland, Rotorua, Taupo, skiing on Ruapehu, Coromandel all good. Northland is nice that time of year and marginally warmer. Good diving on Poor Knights if that's your thing. East Cape is fun for some solitude if you've your own wheels.

The hobbit holes are near Matamata- you get a tour on the site I think.
