    Hello guys,
Am going for vrt next week and wanted few questions answered - tanks in advance
I bought a UK reg from donedeal and me and the seller faxed the export cert form of which I now have and listed as the new keeper, however upon reading the requirements on ncts website, I require a receipt of which I don't have, paid cash and both withdrawal slip / train ticket where I bought the car.

Will appreciate any feedback as this is really getting to me, can't wait to get all these sorted. Bought the car last month and only receieved the export cert few days ago

    Thanks

What vehicle documentation do you have exactly? Do you now have the Full UK registration document (V5c) in your name?

As for the receipt just write one out yourself. That will be sufficient.

You should have got the full V5 form and not got the car registered to yourself, you will now be waiting weeks or months to get it sorted from Swansea. The correct procedure was them to send away the export section to Swansea and give you the rest of the V5.

I have permanent export cert. What about the sellers name and contact as I mentioned in my previous comment?

    Cheers

I didn't know about all these, anyways I have the permanent export cert, listed as the new keeper

The NCT centre will not accept this Export cert as far as I am aware. You need the full UK registration document. (V5c) As was mentioned above, normally the seller hands this document over to you with the car. You may have to get in touch with the UK DVLA to get it now.

You need the V5 , it's all they will except.

For the receipt, just fill one out yourself and sign it not a big deal , the V5 is.

See below regarding evidence of previous registration required-

Evidence of previous registration e.g. foreign certificate of registration, a certificate of permanent exportation or a certificate of de-registration in the case of a vehicle imported from outside the EU, as appropriate, if the car has been previously registered. (A Vehicle Salvage Certificate cannot be used to register a vehicle from 20th February 2012) If the car has not been previously registered a Certificate of Conformity is required (this document will be retained by NCTS so please ensure you make a copy of it before you go to the test centre).

You might be ok then. I don't know anyone who ever went that route but it looks like they may accept the export cert after all.

They have been accepting expert certs for years. Not sure if it's currently acceptable though.
There was a loophole where a person could still get an expert cert issued if a car was a heavy write off in uk and this was used for years to bring write offs into ireland where they might never pass an inspection in the uk to get the v5 reissued.
Now this loophole had been closed off but I don't know if they closed it off by no longer accepting cert of export or whether you can simply not get the cert of export if the car is written off.
A quick call to vrt people should clear this up

They wouldn't have listed it as one of the required docs. if not accepted - am more interested in the other comments from original post

    Thanks

You may also run in to problems when they ask when it entered the state seeing as it was already in the state when you purchased it.

Export section of a V5 is only for a Uk owner who is moving abroad and "Exporting" the car with them.
Otherwise the Revenue (in our case) inform the DVLA of the change in status of the car once it is re-registered.

It entered on the date I purchased it - same is stated on the export cert

I sent a v5c back to Ireland just today to get the Jazz on IRL plates, I am due a tax refund from the DVLA. Once they see the car is off the system and transferred ownership I will get tax paid back (Had to tax it 6 months to get it road legal)

The NCT place need a V5C to get the number plate changed over and assess its value.

Since October 2014 you no longer need to make a direct application for a refund on your vehicle tax .

The DVLA will automatically issue a refund when they receive notification from the registered keeper that the vehicle:

    has been scrapped
    has been sold or transferred
has had its tax class to an exempt duty class
has been removed from the road and the registered keeper has made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)
has been exported to another country
To make sure the amount to be refunded is accurate you need to enter the correct dates of acqusition and disposal on documents V5C, V5C/2 and V5C3.

Guys, can someone please comment on the enclosed taken from ncts/vrt site

"Additional VRT may be payable if the vehicle is fitted with chargeable enhancements/accessories and Revenue may require more time to assess this additional amount."

Question- does this mean you pay more car has a high spec - like in built sat nav etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,310 ✭✭✭Harcrid

Yes they can charge extra for upgrades that may be on the car. But only on cars up to four years old.

Yes. The more the better the more expensive.

Yep. Reducing to zero for 4 year old cars. 75 percent of value of extra for 1 year old times the rate of vrt. 50 percent for 2 year old etc

VRT on my car contradicted that I think as mine is a 08 and vrt is mental., I was not aware extras were not counted on cars over 4 years old, that is pretty generous by em.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭sammyano

Guys, just one more thing though - I don't have the sellers contact number in UK, which is required for the section of the person of whom the vehicle was purchased from. The permanent export cert I got shows his name and address only - pls advise.

They will charge vrt based on your model and then specific extra options over and above are charged extra up to 4 years old.
So I believe they will charge more for a highline passat for example than a base model passat at all ages however additional options over and above the spec listed on their system will only be charged up to four years old.

Just make one up. They really don't do anything about the previous owner.

+1, just get a friend to scribble one on the back of a fag box. The VRT dont care what it is.

The only reason they require it is for a Revenue record to see if you are a part-time flipper so they can issue you with a tax penalty for undeclared income if you import a certain number of cars a year. This amount would based on your initial purchase price (the fake receipt presented)+VRT-their OSMP price..., I believe its only flagged when you register 5+ a year to your own PPS number, but Ive no proof.
