Starting work with HSE - increment query

    Hi all

A friend of mine is shortly starting work with the hse.
She has just entered her 5th year of experience in the field she will be working for the hse in.
She was initially told that she would be put on "point 4" of the salary scale which she was slightly querying as she is in her 5th year but she was reasonably happy. However she was then told than upon review by a manager she will be only on "point 2" as they are not taking into account the last 2 years of her experience as although it was in the exact same field and the same profession etc it was not with the hse! They are taking into account the 2 years previous to that which was with the nhs in england.
    This seems crazy to me!
Is there anything she can do?
    Thanks in advance

Join and talk to the union.

She hasn't started the job yet - she wants to get this sorted before she starts so it's probably not possible to go through a union at this stage?

She could try talking to the union anyway.

But I doubt she'll win. Public sector jobs here typically doesn't count experience outside the public sector in the EEA. The fact that it's the same profession is often irrelevant.

Whilst there used to be a bit of lea way with this, new entrants getting incremental credit for work outside the public service, this is almost unheard of now, and needs Ministerial sanction.
