1.6kg of Four Bird Roast spotted in Aldi for €4.99, down from €7.99 recently and €10.99 at Xmas. Birds are Turkey, Duck, Goose and Chicken. It comes wrapped in bacon and with a glaze included too. I've had it before and its pretty decent for frozen meat, 1.6kg will feed 7 or 8 people so for a fiver you cant go wrong.

I didn't need to Google it. The internet has ruined me already. I won't even do a screenshot of the personalised advertising that is showing up on this thread based on my browsing history.

On a serious note... good value there... but feeds 7 or 8 people? I don't regard myself as a big eater, but I have eaten the entire thing to myself in the past... Surely I'm not the only one... does it say feeds 7 or 8?... christ... still a bargain though

Well, I like good helpings of meat and poultry. I'd have thought a half pound of waste-free meat, as part of a dinner with spuds and veg would be adequate for most people.

Like the first person to milk a cow...what were they thinking about?
If it's protein your after probably not a bad deal.

Had this last weekend. Very nice! Its says it feeds 6-8 but I think 5-6 is more realistic. Great value :)

myself and a mate attempted this, we're both hounds, ate about 75-80% of it
couldnt believe how much was in it, nice enough
5/6 people sounds right to me

I agree, it does sound like the ultimate in decadence and greed. The concept seems to go back a long way, at least to the time of Elizabeth 1 of England, when they'd start with a swan and work down through maybe 10 smaller birds to a woodcock or similar in the middle.

They ate wild songbirds too eg blackbirds and I think they may still do so in France although it's illegal.

There's a lot of information out there and I think Mrs Beeton had a recipe along those lines. This is just one link http://modernfarmer.com/2014/05/come/ . It's an interesting, if appalling, topic.

In one sitting? you have a huge appetite if your not joking that is
I'd have no probs eating the normal chicken/turk/gamm joints by myself but no this one

not sure how I missed that first time round

I ate it all by myself apart from that dark thick strip of meat in the centre. Then again I didn't have any veg with it or a lunch so was quite hungry and ate it over the course of about 2 gours.. But I'd say it feeds 3-4 adult males Max not 7-8.

Premier League players swear by a 4 bird roast(ing)!

It's a good feed, no doubt there. 3 to 4 of us with spuds and veg is perfectly reasonable, I wouldn't feel short changed with that, but if you were hungry enough I do not think there is anything abnormal about eating the entire thing to yourself. Not so shabby at a fiver.

    Good find.

Thanks must pick up one of these of the weekend.

They will be gone. None in Greystones or Arklow when I was in both couple of days ago. Passed by the Enniscorthy one last night and took a chance and said Id check. Got the last one. Lots of discounted frozen meat but they have been cleaned out. Only discounted meat they had was venison steaks, but they are ****e

We got two last week and it was gorgeous. I'm not a duck or goose person but I enjoyed it all together.

And to the fella who ate the whole thing, are you well?! It took myself, mam and dad two days to get through it!!

It's a thing they get in stock pretty regularly, so they will be back someday, probably quite soon.

The Umpty-bird Roast is a real thing, ancient medieval dish, very festive etc: but to be honest, the Aldi and Lidl versions are only just about OK.
Not the tastiest of birds. Reasonably good value for no more than 6 people, that's less than a quid a head - ok for solid meat.
But if you are hoping for rich intense flavour etc, we-e-ell...(bone out and stuff your own!)

I got one these at before Christmas last year and it was fairly bad in taste. The bird was greasy as seams the fat from the duck and goose was absorbed by the white meat. The stuffing was also over powering the taste of the meat.

I had people around for dinner and felt embarrassed I served such bad meat. When it comes out the oven it looks nice un-till you actually taste it.

Avoid and buy a chicken for a fiver or a duck or €7/€8
