Cable modem in bridge mode still getting public IP

    Hi guys,

I am used to ADSL modems so I hope you can give me some insight into cable modems. As part of my home office I setup a Sophos UTM firewall last night and put my cable modem in bridge mode so the firewalls external interface now has a public ip.

When I do a trace route though it show the the first hop as my firewall (192.168.0.1) and the modem (192.168.1.1) as the second hop. I would have expected the modem to be invisible and the second hop to be the in WAN ip address range.

Another thing I am seeing is that I now have two public IPs, the one on the FW and the one on the modem. My NAS seems to think the Modems public IP is the right one and my browser on my desktop thinks the firewalls one is right. I am not used to cable modems but if this was an adsl modem in bridge mode the modem just passes its own ip to the router and is invisible and non routable. I can still get to the modem through the firewall.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks

Sounds kinda like DSLite to me.

What modem is it? Is the modems listed IP an IPv6 one?
