Can anyone tell me what is a fair price for one of these? I was originally considering buying a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 - but I believe this Canon is a very good lens and I know of one for sale. There is the Mk2 version on Adverts for €850 including a Hoya Polarizer. What's the difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 does anyone know?

What would be a fair price for a good condition 16-35mm f2.8 mk1?
    Thanks

Check out MPBphotographics. They have two starting at £650. Works out about €900 + postage.

Thanks for that, so I'm looking at getting this for a lot less - so I hope it will be a good buy. I'm only on a cop body Canon 600d, is this still a recommended lens? I want a fast wide lens - I have the 24-105 F4 and the 70-200F4 also so hopefully this will compliment it.

I'd go for a full frame body. The 24 -105 will give you the same coverage as the 16 - 35 but with better image quality. But full frame also requires more ommf from your PC so maybe more money. Then again if you can get the 16 - 35 at a good price...

Yeah I have considered that... I would like a 6D but they are dam expensive and just out of reach at the moment. I may get this lens for €550 so I think I'd be mad not too. I love my 24-105 but i find it not wide enough, and also not fast enough - sometimes in low light I struggle so that's why I wanted a faster lens. I'm thinking a 6D would be better at high ISO also. Any other advice for me? :)

I had the 16-35 and ditched it for the 17-55 F2.8 IS.

couldn't see the difference in quality between the 2 lens,

as your using a crop sensor I would strongly recommend the 17-55 IS F2.8

its cheaper, has IS, has longer range - doesn't advertise yourself to potential thieves with a big red ring.

    My 2 cents

€550 very cheap for that lens. Not too cheap? The above post makes a good point. Tokina make a very good lens, 16 - 28 with all the bits and bobs. €650 on amazon.de. If the lens in the post above is for crop sensors, what are you going to do with it if you eventually go FF? Not that you need to of course.

I'm getting it at Mates rates :)

I do hope to go full frame at some stage and this lens will work. I hear the Tokina is nice but I'd prefer to stick with Canon L if possible. I was going to buy a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 - but there are none around 2nd hand - its only cause this came up and being slightly wider is welcome.

hi ,if its the mark 1 it has a 77 mm filter thread wer as the mark 2 has 82mm
i'd check the lens date code if i wer you ,the mark 1 was last made about 10 to 12 year ago ..maybe longer ,from what i read they are difficult to get parts for, they can have focusing issues from what i read on web..
