Recommend a G Shock

Hi folks, so I've decided I need a new watch for my birthday....I'm covered in most departments (daily formal, premium auto, diver, causal fashion types, dress watch, etc) and have a decent collection already. However, there's a gap....I don't have a G-Shock!! First question is, do I need one? do only adventure sorts buy them or do they have a place amongst watch collectors generally do people think?

I've looked on creation watches and there's a few I like.i think if I was getting one i'd budget around 150. The mudman caught my eye for its features and style. Any other suggestions? I think i'd like plenty of features rather than just a digital watch with a stop watch....

lastly, where's best for buying online or in town for similar money? Creation seem to be decent and have bought a couple of times before but is there anywhere else, particularly eu so that customs isn't an issue....

    cheers..

I can't give much advice TBH M, but I love G-shocks. No collection should be without one IMH. They were a game changer. I'd lop off a body part for one of the first ones.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I'm considering the Casio GW2310FB-1 since its full digital. Only seems to be available through US based ebayers or though an Amazon seller ripping people off on shipping.

I have the g-7900-1er, love it. I tried in about 8 different g shocks and this one caught my eye but most of all it was by far the most comfortable, it's also a really nice looking watch unlike some g shocks which are can be a bit gaudy looking. I paid €100 for it two months ago in the watch shop in the ilac shopping centre.

Coincidentally, I am looking for a G-Shock at the moment - am thinking of doing some long-distance walking and not sure the DateJust is the man for that. Some of them are a big gaudy and large, but that one looks pretty good to me,

Indeed, I have a Suunto Core, but I left it back in Ireland (in Spain here). Might just be easier and cheaper to get someone to post it out to me (having said that, I don't exactly remember where I've stored it) - but if I did that, I'd have no excuse to get a new watch !

G-Shocks are awesome imo (prefer all digital myself). Apart from creationwatches you could also try Klepsoo, I think they're based in Italy. I ordered my Rangeman from them a good while back and had no issues, no customs either. Not sure how they compare price wise to other places (probably better than Amazon at least) but here's their current G-Shock collection, link.

I bought this one from a fellow boardsie, really nice watch, love the square face on it.

Actually, damn you for bringing up this thread! The Mudman for €90 looks very tasty I must say, link. And I just spotted a watch I was keeping an eye on but was too pricey on ebay, this chap.

Might have to add to my little collection soon:

The GW-M5610-1ER is available in Argos and given the state of the Euro is keenly priced.

Also have my eye on the DW-D5500-1BJF. Bit apprehensive as I have never bought on Rakuten (or ebay for that matter) before.

I had a G Shock awhile back and I liked it but since my wrists are kinda small I sold it on... You need a big wrist for one but they are super cool...Maybe I'd reconsider one of the smaller ones in the future.
I don't like the new analogue range and its a shame Casio are leaving the digital route behind for all these newer analogues with less features.
Digital Moon graphs, tide graphs seem be a distant memory in G shocks now.

Thanks for all the posts guys....seems the gshocks have a bit of a cult following....do people think that you should get one with all the bells and whistles (temp, bar, moon etc that probably never use!) like the mudman or do people go more on the looks than function???

nice collection there.....the mudman for 90 though seems to be a base model...the one on creation with customs is higher spec and works out about the same price on that site I think....

None. I've had mine for about 10 years and it is still as accurate as the atomic clock everytime I check. Bulletproof

Which one have you go, Magill?

Its called g-shock multiband 5 tough solar, with a steel bracelet. It also tunes itself into some radio signals to maintain precise time.
Also, it lights up when its dark and you raise it to your face
