I get quite a lot of bird's dirt on wall capping due to starlings nesting. I am now going to repaint it. My problem is that if I wash it down and wait a day or two to paint the capping more birds dirt will have it soiled again. Can I use a steel brush or sandpaper on the dirt, rather than washing it, before painting? TIA.

Power wash and steel brush the cap. Leave 2 days to dry in dry weather. brush again and paint
