Genetic diversity in farming

    How is the issue of genetic diversity managed in farming? Like does a farmer have to buy new seeds every season or does he trade with other farmers or are the new seeds from the plants in his field. I ask as I want to set up a hydroponics farm and I'm worried about the issue of bottle necking the diversity of my plants will I have to trade with other farmers or buy new seed each year. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method and how do other farmers here solve this issue. Also would need be able to survive inside? How much space would they need
