Went away for a few days on Tuesday were on the M50 saw the signs about paying the toll but never saw any toll gates.
This is the first time we have ever driven to Dublin so didn't know what to do
    Will we get a fine?

Yes you'll get a letter to pay 6.10
Did you read what it said in the signs?

pay in a spar or any shop with the eflow sign. tell them your plate number and how many times you went through the toll :)

That's normally how you do it..but yeah i think ^ is right. you might have a late payment fee.

Using your car reg (create a video account unless you use the road very regularly).

It'll tell you then if you owe them money.

Just ring up eflow with your reg and explain what happened. They are decent to deal with and will most likely drop the penalties and take payment of just the toll itself.

How are you supposed to be reading signs when driving in traffic on roads you've never driven before?
Didn't they have a toll stop on the road?

it's been barrier free for quite a few years at this stage. just go to the eflow web site and pay

Didn't they have a toll stop on the road?
Yes and they created massive traffic holdups, the new electronic system is much more efficient.

Follow the advice given above, give them a call.

    ........

By being a competent , observant driver, who can safely operate a vehicle and read the road conditions, and beaware of signage.

This was the first time driving on this road. We were expecting toll booths.
I'm sure when you are in another country you are very observant while driving & always know what to do

fwiw I pay little attention to road signs or markings either. I just drive how I feel. No big deal really

How did you not notice the toll gate ? There's so many signs and big electronic overheads before you pass it. [There's no physical booth, just a small underpass sign with a row of lights] :o

Funny enough, most people find that when in a strange place they are more observant. Obviously you see things differently.

Did you not read the signs saying pay by 8pm the next day on eflow.ie?

There are loads of them and they are huge

Not rules of the road signage.....I meant the sign for the toll its got a lot of information on it & it was also busy at the time. We were also expecting a physical toll booth
I'm sure its easy to try to put people down when your used to driving on a road

They are really brilliant to deal with. So many stupid lapses on my part they have been happy to scrap penalties etc.

To be fair I think people are being a bit harsh on you if you don't drive that road frequently. I have an e-tag, but the signage appears a lot clearer on the southbound side as opposed northbound depending what way you came.

Southbound you have clear signage and the overhead boards outlining what to do, the Northbound side is on a bit of a bend, and you could easily miss the signage on the left if you weren't in that lane.
