Applying for Tax relief for third-level fees - Have I done this right?

    Hi all -

I tried to do this online using the PAYE website, but I couldn't see any way to enter tuition fees. I found the .pdf of the form I need and I've filled it out/printed it. My local tax office seems to be '85-93 Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2.'

I don't know much about how taxes work....can I just show up their, with my forms and paperwork, wait in line, and get a check back? Or do I need to mail it?

If I mail it, can someone tell me who to address it to? Or do I just put the address and leave it at that?

You can't do it online as proof of payment is required. Fill in the form and submit it by post to your local office. Not all Revenue buildings have public offices so I'm not sure if there's a public office at Mount Street. Even if there was it wouldn't be processed on the day for you anyway. Include your bank details for any refund due to issue your bank account rather than waiting for snail mail cheque.
Also refund dependant on all criteria being met and that you have tax paid in the year the claim relates to.

Mount Lower St is not public. I found that on Friday when I tried to give them my Form 12A.
If you want to go by person they say to go to Cathedral St office.

    Thank you for your response.

I'll probably try giving them a ring tomorrow just to make sure I'm not screwing things up - but do you know what would constitute proof of payment? I was going to include a .pdf with the tuition amount sent from the school for each year - but I didn't know if that'd be enough.

The receipt provided by the educational institution which shows the amount paid and the course is usually sufficient.
