First time insurance

Looking for a good deal for a provisional driver in an Open Corsa VIVA X 1.0 XE.

I can't begin to understand all the different insurance companies sites so I was just hoping to get a general idea for what to expect from other people who where/are in this situation too.

I have no years on the road at all and this is my very first time getting insured!

PS: 19 year old male if that adds to the death sentence that will be my quote..

Shop around. There really is no shortcut to that.

    p.s. Don't drive solo either :D

I wish I had a cent for every time a post popped up here asking about cheap insurance.

There is no answer to the question I'm afraid because car insurance is not bought from a fixed price menu and is tailored around the individual so unless someone here is your twin living on the same street, with the same car and with the same driving experience then what price anyone tells you they are paying, has little or no bearing on what it will cost you.

We all have to go through the tedious task of filling out online quotes and ringing around various insurance companies and brokers at renewal time. There is no short cut.

Emphasis on that part really. I'm struggling to actually UNDERSTAND where to go because I'm getting bogged down with insurance comparing sites and constantly changing figures from the same company. What I would like is simply to have a direction to go not a quote filled out for me.

Forget the comparison sites, they might just give an indication.

Try website quotes, select maybe the 5 cheapest, then give them a call with the quote reference you get from online.

Then try and haggle them down a bit. Some might not give a quote online and might only give you quote over the phone.

If you aren't getting anywhere with that give a broker a shot, they might be able to get you a discount.

    Some insurers (not exhaustive)

    Axa
    Aviva
    AIG
    AA
    Allianz
    123
    Fbd
    Liberty
    Chill
    No nonsense
    One direct
    Sheridan
    First Ireland
    Zurich
    4thelads

Also as you are on a provisional, and may get your full license during your first year, ask them if the will return some of your premium once you get the full license.

Aviva and liberty always seem to be the best for me, but I have full license and good NCB.

And if someone else in your household has car insurance that company might give an extra discount. The bigger companies that do house/health insurance may also do something similar.

Im 18, just got my full licence and am also looking around for insurance.

I found that the comparison websites (i.e. chill.ie) were the most expensive

I found Liberty to be the cheapest, and I am able to get a 10% discount as I have a family member already with them!

But what really has to be done is for you to get as much as possible quotes online - then you call the companies requesting a quote, if its more than the cheapest then tell them and they'll probably try match it. Its very time consuming waiting on the phone and telling them all your details, but it would be worth it!

Try Asgard insurance... They're part of Liberty group and only through a broker but they quoted me a fraction what the bigger companies did. And they're actually good for standing behind claims.
