    Hi,

i was hoping someone here might be able to give some advice

I have a HP g6 or g7 laptop and it's heating up quiet a bit recently. I reckon the fan needs to be cleaned and/or replaced.

Does anyone know how much this might cost including labour ? ( i dont fancy doing it myself) might anyone be able to recommend somwhere?

Im trying to decide whther to get a new laptop or just get the fan sorted. The machine has a 3rd gen icore i3 chip in it so it's a reasonable machine

would appreciate any advice - thanks

If it has a 3rd gen i3 its definitely worth cleaning. More accurate detail on model # would help. You could check youtube for fan cleaning videos. You could try the "compressed-air-in-a-can sprayed through the exit vent" route

As Bonzo said, defo worth a clean. Fans are generally pretty easy to access so you should have a go yourself

Thanks folks . I had a look at the video on YouTube and for the HP pavilion unfortunately u have to disassemble the whole laptop pretty much. Knowing my luck I'd prob end up breaking it

Any idea how much it would cost to get s repair shop to do it? Can anyone recommend one ?

Hard to say as it may not be the fan causing the overheat. Also possible there's a problem with the CPU. Best bet is find a no fix, no fee place and see what they say before handing over any cash.

A repair shop will prob charge a good bit for a complete disassembly. Not having an easy access panel for the fan is bad design IMHO. If you are located anywhere near Galway I'll have a look for you; PM me if you like. In the meantime, use it on a hard surface, preferably propped up on a couple of pencils/botttle caps etc to allow free airflow to the underside.

Be sure to look at the task manager and make sure there is nothing hogging the cpu, as I have seen this to be a cause of laptops overheating.
