It was to launch/relaunch the website wasn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭Kenny2012

It was used at the launch of the web-site. As well as the Blue tail there was also a couple of green versions.

Indeed it was. Under Willie Walsh the airline mgmt tried to move away from the "flag carrier legacy" 4 B737's were painted in this garish AERLINGUS:mad:COM livery.

It was part of his plan at the time to go down the LCC route and get rid of the shamrock.

The first rule of the Dot Com Liveries is: we don't talk about the Dot Com Liveries.

I must be the only one who didn't mind those liveries....

Not a good idea to have dot com in your name as it is too easy to associate with dot com bust and you don't want people thinking that the airline will go broke.

No longer really an issue - back then it was a bit more pertinent but these days most people won't make that association.

I honestly have never come across this, most people wouldn't even remember when or what the .com bust was.
If your company or your enterprise is serious about doing business in the States, not having a .com domain name is a massive impediment to attracting business through your website.

Checked the logbooks, did an airtest on both CDC and BXK out of Shannon on March 16th 2003 as they were both out of painting that day.

We took BXK back to Dublin immediately on completion of the airtest, cue lots of comments on the RT as we landed and taxied in...

He wasn't saying not to have a .com domain name, but rather not to have the ".com" has part of the business name.

They never really got rid of that branding in the end. kept the big red dot. When did they finally stop putting the website on the a/c?

Imagine what Willie will do if he gets his hands on it again! ;)

I hate the big red dot, it adds nothing just looks totally out of place.

Was there ever an Aer Lingus plane with the "One World" livery on it?

The  COM aircraft 10 year ago were Willie's brainchild. A mate of mine once worked in their Ops section....he recalls getting a direct call from the then CEO querying why the  COM B737 was sitting in DUB as the standby aircraft...he wanted it flown as often as possible.

However the Willie Walsh of today (CEO of IAG) is not the same as the WW of 2003-2004 when EI was struggling.

Forget about the old aer lingus 737 - i'm more interested in the huge C-5 and C-141 in the background!

How old would the picture be? Aer lingus has not operated 737's in a long while and the C-141 was retired back in 2006 (according to wiki).

Dated 16th September 2004. Aer Lingus got rid of the last 737s in 2005 and that livery went with them I think.

Frankfurt used to be home to a USAF base up until about 10 years ago. You would be taxiing in and spot a C-5 or C-141 behind you. Always interesting to see those C-5's trying to get airborne with (what I presume was) a full load.

Were removed from new deliveries circa 2008, and removed from existing aircraft in mid to late 2010.
