I just got an email from the girl with the coolest name in Ireland.

    Lynn McCool :D
Director of Golf & Head Pro @ Lough Erne.

I've never played it, but would love to give it a belt sometime. I see they have a Links challenge in July over 3 days (Lought Erne, Murvagh, Narnin), looks pretty good... probably will be on hols though :(

Played it a couple of weeks ago, very nice course, nice layout without being too demanding, I was expecting a much harder course. Good mix of long holes and short driveable par 4's (not that i was able to reach them:D), par 3's over water etc.

That 3 day event would be great, Murvaghs a very nice Links, long but usually in great shape. Its been a long number of years since I played Portnoo, but I remember it as having a lot of character and a few unusual holes that make it very enjoyable.

Played lough erne for the first time a few weeks ago. Amazing course. Very very dry considering the time of year, im great condition. Found it quite an exciting course to play. some really great views from elevated tees.

Playing that Links Challenge myself, looking forward to it. 3 new courses to cross off the list.

Have played all off them but it is too close to the ACC for me. Lough erne not a links and a lot of traveling between them.

The things I remember most about Lough Erne are the big greens with tricky borrows and some hefty hikes between some holes. Good spot though.

Up at 5:30 in the morning to play the two courses here, should sleep well tomorrow night by the sounds of things....

We (1 group of 2) got a buggy for the main course when we played and I think everyone agreed it was the right call. Worth it for the trek from the 5th to 6th alone!
The 2nd group (who walked) also agreed we made the right call :)

Slieve Russell is a very nice course but Lough Erne is even nicer again , wouldn't mind the walk between holes that much, its always in good shape and rain doesn't turn it in to a quagmire. You'll bleed shots on and around the greens, can be very tricky. Really looking forward to the Irish open been played there.

My GPS said the Faldo course was 7.6miles, huge transitions at time, great course no doubt but would not bother playing the Hume Castle course after the one round there.
While playing the Faldo course I had the Irish Open in mind and have to say I could rarely see positions for spectators due to woodland, steep slopes to woodland, brush and waters edge, will be nice to see it on ztV after playing it in person, huge amount of staff on the course today...bit of sanding going on and tee box work.
Two rounds over in 6 hours, played them back to back

The Hume course didn't look too inspiring when we were up there.
They're going to have to re-jig the layout for the Irish Open... the 1st (only access via bridge) or 18th (par 3 with limited grandstand potential) won't really work. They were saying that 16th is favourite for the finishing hole and that would be my pick too. I can't see many how spectators will work on the current 1-3 at all.. and it's going to be tight in other places.

6th should be the first, finish up on the current 5th, that walk from 5 to 6 mid round is lunatic, I assume all the reed beds will be cut out as they have enveloped the par 3 18th and 5th now

It would make sense given the gap but I'm not sure about a par 3 finish and they seemed to be discounting it too.

Well I agree on current layout having to be amended, should be interesting to see what happens...

Funny I find Slieve Russell much more playable thus more enjoyable than Lough Erne. I find its a really underrated course in Ireland. I know you didn't say anything bad about the course it's just that I rate it that highly.

Its all about personal opinion, I would play Lough Erne at every opportunity but I wouldn't turn my nose up at Slieve Russell either, just Lough Erne first.:D
