LOCAL COMMUNITY CALLS MEETING TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF LOUGHREA TOWN HALL AND CINEMA

Public consultation meeting: Thursday 23rd April, Loughrea Hotel, 8pm

On Thursday 23rd of April at 8pm in the Loughrea Hotel there will be an open, participative meeting which aims to identify what the community of Loughrea would like to see happen to the Loughrea Town Hall and Cinema, which was for many years a centre of cultural and social life in the town.

“We think the people of Loughrea should be asked what they want to see happen to one of the largest and most historic buildings in the town,” said a spokesperson of the small group of concerned citizens which has come together to organise the meeting.

Recent articles in the local and national media have outlined the different processes underway to replace the open plan ballroom with office spaces and extensively transform the listed building.

Local citizens have been increasingly frustrated at the lack of consulatation and response from the local authority regarding the future of the iconic building and have decided to take matters into their own hands.

“We want to organise the meeting in a participative way so that people will have an opportunity to discuss with each other the future they see for the Town Hall and Cinema building. We'd like to invite any local councillors, TDs or Senators so they can get an idea of what the people of Loughrea want to see happen. That's the first step,” added the spokesperson.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in the future restoration of the Town Hall and Cinema of Loughrea. It will take place on Thursday 23rd April at 8pm.
