    Hi all,

Is anyone aware of software companies in Galway that might have 4 months work for an enthusiastic 2nd year software design engineer student?

ask the course coordinator if he know's anyone. Try sending emails/letters to companies asking if you can do an internship.

Why focus just on software companies? Lots of companies are automating their products and production methods these days. Many have absolutely no idea about the electronics side of things and are outsourcing or putting off automating their product due to costs.

If you're looking for work in gaming you're going to be hard pushed finding work in Galway. If you extend your search out to include companies that don't seem obviously attached to technology you might find something very interesting and rewarding out there. Maybe shot off an email to some other types of companies and see if anyone bites. Your email will probably get ignored by most but there are always companies willing to take advantage of a student.
