Cleaning real wood floors

Hi, bought a house last year and the previous owners have the carpet ripped up in the upstairs so the real timber floors are showing. They look great but does anyone know how to clean them without them getting too damp or the timber warping?

Are they varnished or otherwise sealed or bare boards? And what are you trying to clean off them?

If they're varnished and the gaps between are sealed, just use an ordinary hard floor cleaner, water and a mop. If the gaps aren't sealed you could damage the ceiling below with water though

They are varnished from what I can see although not with a while. Don't think they are treated and yes they are the bare boards. Not trying to clean anything as such just want to give them the once over since we've just moved in. The gaps aren't sealed so maybe they need some sort of treatment?

Best advice since you don't really know for sure what they've done is to hire a proper floor sander and strip it back to the timber. Treat them, seal the gaps and varnish them.

Then warm water with a wooden floor cleaning product off the shelf should be the order of the day
