Car just declared uneconomical to repair

    Hi All

I'm looking for some info on what to do with my car that has just been declared uneconomical to repair.
Car is a Peugeot 407 Coupe, 2.2 petrol, 2006, 165k, leather, heated seats etc.

Driver slammed into back me on the M50 a few weeks back while i was stationary.
The boot well is crumpled and back bits and pieces wrecked.
No spanner has touched it but 2 assessors have deemed it uneconomical to repair.
Car is still running as it was driven home from the accident.

His insurance has paid me a fair offer for the book value which i've accepted, and i've also retained ownership of the car.

I looking for some info on what to do next as i haven't a clue where to start.
Basically, I want to sell the car on for the best price.
Not sure if anyone will attempt to repair or sell for parts, but how do I go about offloading?

thanks for the assistance in advance, haven't a clue about these thing or what value to accept

Go online, find the average value, stick it up on DoneDeal for 50% of that and be prepared to haggle / come down. Depends how much effort you want to go into selling it and how much you want to try make. Really depends on how badly its damaged and if someone is bothered to repair.

Alternatively, you could price having it repaired, and then factor that into a sale value. You could very easily make a tidy profit on it.

You're in a very good position either way with a payout and ownership of the vehicle. I was always under the impression you lost the ownership in such cases i.e. You're in the same position as you were with the money as opposed to the car.

You do (lose ownership), the OP must have accepted a reduced off to keep the car. Otherwise the insurance company would have taken the car and sold it for scrap value.

    Thanks for the input folks.
The offer accepted was very close to the average book value, did my research on it and had a few back and forths with his insurance company on it.
no complaints on the money received for it, and had to verify that I was being left with the car also, so that was a surprise when they agreed.

My predicament now is that as it's an uneconomical write off, what's the best way to offload the car and get a decent return on it.

I'll try the donedeal/adverts route and see if that gets any attention.
Barring that, does anyone know of the decent car breakers around that would pay fair price?

Might be worth calling some local bodyshops and see if they have an interest. If they can buy it cheap and work on it in quite periods, then sell for a profit, they'll be interested.

Agree in principle, but I doubt many would take on a 2006, 2.2 petrol, with relatively high miles.

@OP, try the damaged/repairable section in donedeal. There are lots of people scouring that in the hope of getting a bargain. A mate had two 10 year old Fiestas recently, one damaged, one needing tidying only, similar price. The phone was hopping for the damaged one, and way less calls on the straight one.
