    Hi

I am currently using the YAMAHA RXV47, I have 2 TANNOYMERCURY V1i speakers as my right and left and Tannoy Revolution D4C LCR as my centre.

I am looking to get a subwoofer, surround sound speakers and digital optical cable. Should I use the same speakers I have for my right/left for my surround right/left or will a different one work better. Also can you recommend a good subwoofer and 2m long digital optical cable to connect tv to the amp.

Not sure if it makes a difference but the room size in 10 feet by 10 feet.

    thanks

Also can you have a look at the setup in pic and tell me if it is correct please.
    Really appreciate it.

    Hi melb2ib,

First things first, looking at your diagram, it seems to be fairly spot on for your seating arrangement, however if I could just make one or two suggestions we may be able to get you a slightly more balanced sound!

Where you have the surround left speaker marked on the diagram there, if there was any way you could move it to the far side of the couch on the left, effectively mirroring the position of the surround right speaker. This, along with angling the two surrounds in towards the seating positions will give you a more even surround for anyone on the couch.

The front speaker placements are fine, although if your diagram is representative of your spacing, moving the FL and FR slightly further apart if possible will give you an improved stereo field and improve your overall balance.

The sub is easy, as frequencies get lower they become less directional and therefore it becomes less of an issue as to where they are positioned. Convention usually puts the sub just to the left of your screen although this is by no means necessary. Basically wherever you can fit your sub that you're happy with, it will work just fine.

Now that we've covered your positions, it's on to your speakers! There is absolutely nothing wrong with using another set of V1i's as your surrounds, however in this instance, I would maybe consider upgrading to something like a nice pair of Tannoy DC6's and moving your current V1i's to the back as your surrounds. The DC6's would sit more comfortably and be more equivalent to your DC4 center, with the V1i's providing your ambient surround audio.

Here is a quick link to the DC6 if you want to have a look at them:

As for the sub, if you wanted to stick with Tannoy (not entirely necessary, but people generally want to match brands) there are two I would recommend for this setup. Firstly we have a SFX Sub, which is a decent basic sub which will provide all the low end you need for a room like this, alternatively, if you wanted something a little more discreet but with a much tighter response and a bit more kick, the Tannoy TS2.10 is pretty special. It features twin drivers and a 300W amp that will drop to a delicious 24Hz all while being more compact than the SFX.

Again, here are the links to these products:

Finally, my recommendation would be for a 2.25m Cambridge 300 series optical cable will provide you a great quality audio connection.

Hope all this helps and if you would like to speak further to myself or any of the colleagues, don't hesitate to give us a call on 0333 900 0070, or drop us a PM and we can give you a call.

    Hi Kenny

I recently purchased the above subwoofer from you but am not sure how to connect it to my receiver. Bad news is it didnt come with any connection cables so not sure where to start.

Can you have a look at the two pics and let me know where it connects and which cable I need please?

    cheers

    Hi Melb2ib.

The cable used to connect the amp and subwoofer would be a single phono cable.

We stock the Cambridge AUD100 7.5m priced at 27.99 euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-10538-aud100-75m-sub-cable.aspx

When connecting the two together you would use Subwoofer pre out on the receiver and the on the rear of the Tannoy you would use either the red or white line in inputs.

Apologies the Paul had not mentioned this cable when replying above.

I hope this is of help and apologies for any hassle caused.
