Lads are there any golf courses in and around Dublin or wicklow area that don't require a handicap? Seems impossible to find one. Bit of a newbie question here but it's been a good 15 years since I played on a full golf course. Only the odd pitch and putt or driving range. Everywhere I enquire keeps telling me I either need to be a member or need a handicap or something else. I'm just looking to book a teetime, turn up, play, and go home without any membership or handicap stuffs etc. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

    Which courses were you asking?

I've never made a booking on any course in the country where they asked me for my handicap to play a casual round.

Yes, if there is a competition on you'll need a handicap but outside of that the question shouldn't even be on the table.

If that was the case then most societies in the country wouldn't exist

    You could always just lie

Say your a member of XXXX and you play of a handicap of YY. 99% of clubs won't check and it won't matter. They'll just be delighted to the get the 20 quid off ya and pray you don't die out there

your asking the wrong questions! Ring a club and say your looking to book a green fee and & what times are available or book one on teetimes.ie for a cheap rate or golf now.

Apart from playing an open I've never been asked for a handicap or whether I'm a member somewhere, just book and turn up, your green fees will not be turned away

some places do ask, but they are generally quite snobby and ridiculously expensive! I won't name names, but I was asked recently.

As the other guys say though, I would have though it is more impossible to find a course where they care if you have a handicap or not .... though, years ago, you always used to have to show your handicap cert, but nowadays, money talks!

    +1
I played scratch cup in Mount Juliet last year. They didn't care less that one of our group had no handicap. He just couldn't enter competition, which he knew and was not bothered

Glen Mill outside Newtownmountkennedy. Is a par 3 course and a great test for starting off in golf. Few holes are 200/220 yards. Few with water. Great to test your irons and short game. Think it's about €12 a round.

Never knew this place existed, what's it like as a course and does it get much traffic? Suppose it's tough to advertise and compete against similar corporation type cources such as Elm Green which would be in its vacinity and can offer membership and a GUI handicap.

Jasus you're right I must be asking all the wrong questions. Maybe they can smell the beginner-ness off me and are worried I'll hold everyone up! Anywhere I rang up I asked if there was a minimum handicap etc, guess that was my mistake, I just won't say anything ;) Cheers for the courses, will check them out!

Think if you rand royal Dublin or portmarnock and asked what was the max handicap they may turn you away. But played 100 odd courses and never been asked outside a open.

Give Slade Valley Golf Club a ring 01-4582183, it is just outside Saggart Village in Dublin & they are always happy to welcome visitors ( even at weekends )
