What to buy with 3K budget

Hi all,

I need to get a new car before Monday, looking at Max 3K and based in Cork

Really like this 5 series but hearing some mixed reviews - http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-5-series-520i-6speed-full-serv-hist/9159103?offset=2

Is this a good deal or a black hole of despair?
Other options are a Mazda 6 which I had recent good experience with.
I just need something half decent & reliable for a 1 year.

Any recommendations given the tight budget.

I'm always sceptical of cheap BMWs, it usually means they need a ball of money thrown at them soon after buying them. And I would not expect much in the way of warranty from a dealer in that price range. It could be a honest car but also could potentially burn a hole in your wallet.

If reliability is important to you then something like this would be a safer bet though less exciting:

The engines in those are very reliable as they are the older M54 units, all you really need to look for is if the rocker gasket was replaced as that's a common oil leak on them. Not sure what the cooling system is like on the E60's but it is a concern on the older E39 which you should consider at that price as you'll get a good one.

@Idbatterim would the lack of NCT be a concern
