distance away from the ball at address

    hey guys,
having recently gotten back into golf, I have made the obvious improvements most make after coming back from a 5 year lay off, shaking off the rustiness and what not. Playing off 20 at the minute and starting to break my game down a little to identify places for improvement.
Focusing on the all important approach from 80-120 meters, a shot which lets me down at the minute. I have been playing all my wedges too far forward in my stance since I started back because it simply felt comfortable. Losing a lot of distance that way though, as when I put it further back I compress the ball better and take a solid divot getting good spin hence the ball stays on the green.... that's when it goes right.
move often than not whit a 56* 85 meters out I stand too close to the ball and push it way right and cut a sod of turf from the ground.
After 4 or 5 at the range im nailing it but that's not really any help when im in the once off situations being on the course brings.
Does anyone have any good tips or ideas for creating a consistent address position. I just feel sometimes Im "reaching" out to the ball, especially with the short irons.
    Thanks for reading.
