The Ni-Cd batteries are the bad part of this deal, better to get Li-Ion in your power tools nowadays

thanks hope that makes it easier! agree with the ni / li comment and this is definitely not a drill suitable for all but thought at the price point it would be good for casual users / as a backup

In home use where the cycle life will likely never be reached the longer shelf life of nicd can be an advantage over li-ion after a couple years.

The other advantages of li-ion probably do outweigh their shorter life though.

Li-ion batteries have circuitry to prevent them being abused though whereas nicd packs are usually fecked by people runnning them completely flat as some of the cells will go flat before others and are damaged by the current forced through them.

Interesting stuff mood, I have actually picked this up now as a 'round the house' drill so am glad to hear its not totally redundant tech!

I've a black and decker ni-cd drill I got for €25 around 9 years ago.. still on the original battery and the charge lasts ages. Useful drills for around the house jobs.

Ni-Cd is a dirty tech, poisonous if incorrectly disposed of.

However, it's perfect for drills as it will tolerate being nearly short circuited without damage, which is basically what a drill is asking it to do under heavy load.

    Hey guys

Engine seems to be gone in my trusty Black and Decker drill, had it around 7-10 years and has done perfect. Only use it for around the house and hardest work it has done is drill a few holes into block walls.

Was going to buy black and decker and see if I could use the battery again as it is perfect but not much options out there

Was going to go with above but worried about the comments on the battery, would it do the job? it is maybe used 3-4 times a year

Has anyone bought this drill? is it any good?

Have one of these reserved for tomorrow. These are DeWalt rebranded, two batteries. The argos reviews are great. Happy with the deal..

Not strictly a rebranded dewalt but made by the same parent company.

    Interesting additional info here
