Dealer Issue

Bought a second hand Mercedes cls last year just one year old. It was of a main dealer. The deal when purchases was I would get first service free and the front tyres were near replacing so was promised 2 bridgestone tyres.

When I went to get it serviced 4 tyres we all worn so I asked for 4 new tyres. It was implied to me that I would get them from the service manager and the sales man. On my return to the garage I was told that they could not give the extra 2 tyres for free. They has put on the four tyres and produced a bill for 400 for the 2 tyres. These were a non brand name tyre not bridgstone as promised. I paid them stupidly as I was in a hurry. I then the next day thought about it and I called for a quote for the tyres and they quoted 350. A local tyre garage quoted 240 for both tyres. After spending 60k on a car I feel this is very bad service. What would ye do? I phoned a complaint but I never for a reply.

Unfortunately your ground is alot less solid now once you accepted the non branded tyres. The best thing to do is go back in and speak with the service manager and sales person you bought the car off of and express your disappointment at getting non branded tyres when promised Bridgestones.

What brand were the tyres fitted? Seems very strange for a Merc dealer to fit rubbish tyres to a one year old car.

When last year did you buy the car?

Really shows the value of getting these things done before you part with your cash. Seen numerous threads here where garages "promise" to sort this and that post sale (usually NCT). Of course when it comes to it they renege. All you can do is keep up the pressure. Have you met with the original sales guy. After spending 60k you should expect far far better.

It was a main dealer. Got the car last Nobember and got service in Feburary. Tyres were Kumho.

Better than the nylon tyres I see on many mercs!

Kumho isn't a top brand, but to be fair, they aren't rubbish or non brand either.
If you were promised 2 tyres, you can't expect 4.

On the other hand, it's odd that they didn't prep the car to a high standard given the money being spent.

Indeed, not sure why you'd expect four tyres when they promised two tyres?

Kumho are actually a pretty decent brand. The last main dealer I worked with had minimum standards that they had to adhere to set out by BMW UK/Ireland as far as I know. This meant that if fitting new tyres to a second hand car the brand must be Kumho or higher standard. Quite possible that the Merc dealer is the same.

I saw Hankook tyres fitted to a new 151 Fiesta Titanium yesterday. They never struck me as being premium tyres either.

Hankook are standard on the fiesta.

Op have you anything in writing to say they promised you bridgstones if you havent its your word against theyres.

Hankook are a good mid range tyre brand. Would see nothing unusual about finding them fitted to a run of the mill Fiesta. Car manufacturers strike deals with different tyre manufacturers regularly.

    No they aren't :D

    The ST has Bridgestone Potenzas.
