    Hi,

Just wondering is a shop allowed to share cctv with other shops. Just say someone caught robbing in Tesco can Tesco then warn Dunnes and give them footage?

    Thanks everyone

This came up on a meeting I was at with Gardai and they said you should only share CCTV with them. I used to work in the UK and there you are able to share it quite freely helps reduce problem shoplifters. You see a few people post stuff on social media seems like it is asking for trouble.

Thanks jimmii. I would have thought it would make sense to be allowed share the information but just not sure if it breaches data protection

Most of the major stores and shopping centers ive worked for in security positions did it .
We used to take actual photographs of people caught shop lifting until a solicitor took several complaints to court back in the early 2000's .
Now nearly all stores keep cctv stills of shoplifters both well known lifters and chancers .

Thanks gatling. So do you think I can share information with another shop or would I breach data protection? Would they have to formally request it before I could share? Thanks

This is the data protection page on CCTV

    http://www.dataprotection.ie/docs/Data-Protection-CCTV/242.htm

By the looks of it you have to pixilate anyone's face who appears on the footage other than the person requesting it and they have to request an exact time.

Ok thanks. Seems like I can only share with the shoplifters then and no one else unfortunately even if it would benefit other shops

Yeah as I say at a meeting of businesses it was asked whether it could be shared and they pretty much said no. You cannot be seen to be sharing CCTV with other businesses. So obviously no one shares it now as that would be wrong.
