Retrieving photos from a dead Galaxy S2

A friend's S2 died last week and she has been unable to re-start it. I played around with it for a bit but couldn't get it to go past the "Samsung Galaxy S2" welcome page. All she wants is to be able to get her photos off the phone - does anyone know of a way that this can be done, or if there's anywhere the phone can be left in (in Dublin) to retrieve the photos? And before anyone says she should have backed them up, she's not very technically minded and doesn't own a computer, so that was never an option. I know, it's shocking that someone can function in this day and age without a computer but even using a smart phone was a major technological leap forward for her. :)

    Thanks.

I'm assuming they weren't on the sd card?

    Or on google+?

Pretty sure it hasn't got an SD card but I didn't think of checking. They didn't come with the S2s as standard, did they? If not, she definitely wouldn't have bought one.

And she's definitely not a Google+ user either unfortunately.

She might have unknowingly had sync switched on.she could log into her google account from any pc or tablet and check.if,with any luck, sync was on,all her photos would be there.

That would have been great if she had. Just checked though and unfortunately she hadn't. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, really appreciate your help.

Did you try softboot the phone? You might be able to sort out the problem there.

Edit...while phone is off press power button and volume down at the same time

    How would I do that?

EDIT: Just spotted your edit there. Don't think I tried that. She's gone home now and has the phone with her so I'll tell her to try than and we'll see what happens.

If all else fails you could try taking the battery out, putting it back in,then turn it on until you get to the welcome screen, then let the battery run down all the way, then charge it fully before trying to turn it on again.

And ask her to check for an sd card in the phone. Think there was one in mine when I bought one years ago.
