Want to move out but need money for college

I'm in a pretty rotten situation atm. I work full time because my parents wouldn't give me any money to help me go to college. I live a 10 minute drive from my job and my mother often refuses to give me a lift meaning I'm spending money on taxis a lot lately. I badly want to move out to a place near my job and finally get away from the environment I'm in. The problem is, I need to save as much as I can for college and all rent contracts are minimum one year. If I spend most of my wages on rent and food I might well run out of money a few months into college before my grant comes. Not only that, but I'll be paying for a one year contract and I only want to use 5 months of it. I'm sure some will say just suck it up and wait for September but my parents want me out and living with them is making my life hell.

The main issue seems to be the lifts, you shouldn't be relying on your folks driving you to and from work every day, I can see why that is causing tension.
Is there a way to get there using public transport, even if it means a long way round. Can you cycle?

Would you be able to afford a second hand moped if you think the cycle is a bit far?

You need a license for a moped before you buy one.
OP, do you qualify for a grant? How much of a one? Where do you plan on going to college and is it a course you can do somewhere that's cheaper to live?

The obvious thing to me would be that you walk or cycle to work.

And you dont say why your parents want you out or why the situation is so bad, so its hard to advise really. If its normal parent/adult child issues, i would say suck it up.

Why can't you walk/cycle to work? You can pick up a cheap/free bike on adverts?

Just move out after the five months of renting. All landlord will be able to do is keep your deposit. I'd recommend starting a credit union account and put in some money every week and if needed get a student loan out before college starts. Mightn't sound ideal but if my parents were that toxic I'd be leaving right away.

No public transport available and a cycle would probabaly take me an hour each time, not to mention wouldn't be comfortable cycling on the busy main road to work seeing as I have very little cycling experience.

    Just how far is it?

A ten minute drive wouldn't take an hour on the bike.

Get a bike and get used to cycling it. Then you aren't relying on anyone for transport.

I agree - get a bike and cycle to and from work. You'd be suprised how much good daily exercise can be for you also. Improves appearance, health and state of mind. Also more money for you and less problems with your mother. Its a win/win really

There's plenty of sharing options around Dublin which have short term arrangements. Check out daft. It will do your headspace a lot of good to get out of your situation and your relationship with your parents will improve over time when you're not seeing them day in day out.
