Really don't know what to do with my life

Hi everyone, I'm sure that this problem has arisen for a lot of people but I am feeling stuck. I feel down because I know I should be feeling lucky - I have a job, a beautiful baby girl and very supportive parents. I can get by on my money and all for now, but I feel I want more...

I am stuck at home due to money - I can't afford rent. While it is great to have that stability, I would LOVE to be able to have my own independence. I know I will get there someday but it feels like forever. My friend recently bought a house and is so settled, has a new job in her field of study with a good salary, and I am in a job which I hate most of the time, only to pay crèche fees pretty much. I am a single mother.

I studied technology in college and tried to find permanent work in the field after college but gave up when I got a permanent job in an office doing admin work. I'm still here four years later and I feel so un-fulfilled. I need to do something more creative than putting numbers in a excel sheet. But it requires money. I feel I should just suck it up and get on with it, for the sake of having money to provide for my daughter. But I want something MORE.

I am looking for jobs elsewhere but I have no training in anything. I have my degree, but I haven't worked in that area for so long that I would definitely need a refreshers course. I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm being pulled all over the place - from what I really want to do (something creative) to just sticking at what i'm doing (for the money).

Anyone have any advice? I feel rather self conscious in work because I'm unqualified. I feel like I'm only able to do the simplest things because I don't understand anything else, so therefore feel like I don't really fit in. It's starting to get to me and make me feel agitated.

you have a lot of responsibility in your life. a job and being a single mother. try not to ley yourself be pulled too much either way for the moment.
you child will get bigger, go to school which won't cost anything as much as creche or playschool does.
in the meantime save as much as you can. look into doing a course in your field even part-time or evening.

time does move on and circumstances will change so if you work towards providing a ho,e for yourself and your child in the future you'll get there. and what's more, i hope you'll be very proud of yourself, you're a great example to your child.

You might get training for the job you're in, courses etc.

You might look in to using your qualification.

Ask any friends who used their same qualification that you have for advice, let them know you are thinking of a change of work.

Maybe talk to organisations or women in a similar situation to yourself for support. They might know something you don't.

If your personal life is enjoyable and fulfilling it helps you cope with uninteresting or stressful jobs.

    Best of luck.

I work as a software developer and I don't really think you do need a refresher course. There are plenty of self taught courses online for any IT field you want to get into. Can I ask what area would you like to get into and I can provide you with some information.
