Might be best to check that with your union.

Are you making a claim against Hse? If so and you are claiming you are unable to carry out your duties, then working in the private sector would present some difficulties.

No a serious medical condition but if I were to retire I was just wondering if full recovery or remission would I be allowed to work part time as a nurse, due to mortgage children in college.

Would it be an option to take leave of absence from the HSE and leave the door open for you to return if you are in a position to do so?

If you wish to retire on health grounds, you will have to be assessed by the Occupational Health staff in your area. If and when they confirm that you are unable to work on health grounds, you should be given added years to bring you up to retirement age, subject to a max of 6.75years. This will qualify you for a lump sum of up to 1.5 times your final salary and a pension of up to 50% of you final salary, depending on how many years service you have.

You can clarify your entitlement with the Superannuation Office in the HSE area that you live in.

If all the foregoing comes to pass, you can work in any private nursing facility, but not in a HSE facility.
