Some lessons would be money well spent. It'll give you a good steer re the basics and things you can concentrate on when practising.

Is there a golf club close to you? Head down there and have a chat with the pro. They'll tell you all you need to know.

You will still qualify for Junior membership so try and find a local course that has some practice facilities and join up. They often have free lessons or cheap group lessons for juniors. If u need clubs have a look on adverts and ask here when you find something or ask the pro in the club if he has anything second hand to get you started.

Where do you live? My club is starting a beginners school for men only this month which will be great for beginners with option to join at the end.

We also have new junior membership fees for under 25's and under 30's which are great value for the north Dublin area (Corrstown).

Ollieboy, my uncle travels out to Corrstown to play, he was club captain. If he is willing to travel across the city it must be a great club, he is very fussy about his golfing :)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread.

I have never played golf before, but have been watching the Masters this year, and use to watch it years ago. Now I fancy having a go for myself. I was looking at hitting Silloge Golf course during the week, however, I have no clubs! Can anyone advise what I need to get going? I don't want to invest too much money, not just yet anyway!

    Thank you.

I've not used it yet, but Heard Shane Lowry being interviewed a couple of times about this app he is backing.

It is aimed at beginners like yourselves and making it less intimidating for complete beginners to get involved in the game.

There are free lessons to be had, my Bro in Law (absolute beginner - doesn't even have a club) got one the other day out in Beechpark Golf Club.
