What with the beautiful weather we're having at the moment (Dublin is hotter than Athens today!) it seems to be the perfect weather to have a picnic in the park.

Do AHers go on picnics? I remember going on quite a few as a young child and they were great. I'll be going to a picnic meet up in early May of another internet forum that I'm an admin on. Really looking forward to it!:)

Nice to have them now before the wasps come in to ruin everything.

    I don't like wasps.

No. I was approached by a giant novelty Mickey Mouse while having a picnic at Disney Land many years ago. It was all very uncomfortable and if I were to have a picnic now it would bring back quite a lot of horrible memories.

You're thinking of that time George Michael was caught with the chocolate bar up his backside.

He said it was a careless wispa.

Picnics can be delightful. Whats better than an afternoon picnic on a hot summer's day in the park, with the beautiful aroma of un-emptied rubbish bins and steaming hot dog feces on the nearby park grass gently caressing your nostrils.

I love picnics, with the right food. Hot chicken, soft crusty bread, ice cream, cold water, nice day and all, lovely it is.

I'm sensing a lot of negativity here people. :( Why can't you go out and have a lovely picnic on a nice day? It doesn't cost the Earth and can be very enjoyable.

I've never had a picnic, unless you count sandwiches with sheep shite on them and tae from a jamjar.

A picnic would be lovely only in our house everyone would expect a feed before they went on the picnic and who would have to make it ME.
Then they would eat whatever I made for the picnic before we would even get out of the house.
Then they would expect another feed when we got back from the picnic because after all we didnt eat real food it was only a picnic.

Not going to be caught a second time with that caper

I think it's 15 years since we last went on a picnic. Flies trying to get at the food, wasps trying to get in the drinks, meh, now I remember why we don't do BBQs or picnics. :D

Yeah. Taking the kids to the park tomorrow. Play ball and bring some food and a big blanket. Better than being inside.

I absolutely adore a picnic on a lovely weekend day during the Summer. My partner and I will put together some salads, say a radish and apple salad, a cucumber and carrot salad a with dill horseradish dressing, some pickled vegetables, a nice nutty cheese, some cured meats, fresh bread and a nice bottle of chilled Riesling. Head out a local lake or forest and spend the afternoon eating, talking, and just spending some quality time with each other. It's good for the soul and the mind.

Good to hear civilization saved the day. I was getting a bit weary of eating worms, cockroaches and grubs in a hole I dug underground.

I LOVE picnics, and do it whenever I can all summer long. Beach, mountains, canal-side, anywhere.
Boil water for tea in a Kelly Kettle, or bring a flask - I love a hot drink.
Or a glass of wine...but plenty of drinking water is important.
I find it works best to make something like lengthways-filled-baguette-type sandwiches, then cut into sections at lunchtime. Fruitcake or traybakes are good filling desserts...cool Kia-Ora for kids to drink.
Favourite picnic trick - gin and tonic, complete with ice cubes from a flask!

Use last bit of warm water to dampen a cloth napkin and wipe hands and faces.

    And, important notice:
Always leave a picnic site cleanER than you found it!

I'm not going on a picnic until I can buy a Capri Sun packet filled with wine.

I'm a sap, love picnics. I get proper excited about them.

Haven't had one in almost two years. Last one was on the beach in Donabate after a week of night duty. I was too tired to eat much but picked at a few bits then had a cuddle and a snooze under the sun. Glorious :)

In this time of recession its one of the last simple and cheap pleasures left - assuming its nice out. So one or two days in the year

Love 'em. Especially at the beach, after a dip in the water on a hot day, which we had plenty of over the past couple of summers. I keep it simple though...some crusty rolls, some ham and cheese or cold roast chicken, chilled wine, a few apples, a couple of apple and walnut muffins, and the obligatory Taytos to remind me of being a kid. Luckily, I live beside a really great beach & a supermarket, so it takes very little effort to organize all this & get us & the grub from A to B.

Took a picnic to Fota Wildlife Park in Cork the other day. Piri Piri chicken wraps with lettuce, salsa and sour cream, vege sticks with houmus and home made cupcakes. Picnics are much, much nicer than any of the crap food you get at popular attractions.
