Anyone got any tips on where in Dublin to get decent value on tyres? I've an NCT coming up and need at least two tyres. 215/55 R16 for a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso.

I've done a bit of searching online, but most of the dealers won't show prices on their websites, they just say "call us for a quote" instead.

Are you looking something half decent or the cheapest possible tyres you can find?

Just call them for a quote. You dont have to take them up on it.

My rule of thumb recently has been, get at least a mid-range tyre brand:

http://www.discounttyres.ie/ are good, and well recommended. First stop carry firestone multihawks I think. They're a solid mid-range, mid-price tyre.

I think I speak for everyone on the motors forum here, when I say, Dont buy cheapo Chinese tyres.

No, definitely something half-decent. I don't want to get the cheapest, lowest-quality tyres I can find.

Dave McCann mobile tyre fitters are excellent and fairly priced. Beware places quoting you then adding VAT, valves and disposal!

I went with the Firestone Multihawk 2, seemed to get good reviews overall. More expensive Bridgestone tyres seemed to fair badly in reviews.

Haughton & Sons first stop garage up near Blanch did decent prices on multihawks the last time a friend went there. A different First Stop garage was quoting him way more than Haughton & Sons. Worth a shout if you're nearby.

PS. They do online quotes, but when I rang up asking the price was cheaper :D

Discount tyres in Blanch are worth a call too, ask for Keith.

Check if 205/55/R16 will fit your car instead OP. My last car (a Passat) had the same tyres you have now and I found them virtually impossible to get in a decent brand, but the 205's were far more readily available and a fair bit cheaper!

Thanks all for suggestions and opinions.

I ended up getting extra-load Bridgestones (for the price of extra-load Firestones) in First Stop Donnybrook.

And passed the NCT this afternoon, so now good till 2017 (hopefully).
