Building a new house, surround sound options

    Hi,

I created a thread over in the normal HE forums.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057410381

Basically, I am currently in the middle of a new build. I asked the builder to include surround sound wiring for the room, 5x4.8m. Just wondering what I should ask for or might it even be better if I source the wire myself first and have it ready. I dont want to spend a fortune now but Id like to have options available for upgrades at a later date.

I was thinking of just setting everything up and using a home-cinema system but would I be better off getting a proper amp/speakers? Am I wrong in assuming they would still use the same standard connections?

    Hi Ri_Nollaig.

You would be better off using an A/V receiver and a 5.1 speaker setup over an all in one home cinema system.
Sometime the all in ones can put connection block the speaker cables and the same connection on there unit. This makes up grading in the future a nightmare.

Depending on the system would depend on the cable.

Some popular cables with ourselves would be:

Cambridge Audio Symphony 100 priced at 1.29 Euro per meter

Cambridge Audio Symphony 200 priced at 1.99 Euro per meter
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-100101-symphony-200.aspx

Ultra micro (silver based) priced at 3.69 Euro per meter
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-910743-ultra-micro.aspx

You would also need to run a cable for the subwoofer as it runs on a single phono. We do a 7.5m one priced at 27.99 Euro

Have you had a chance to look at any system as of yet?

    Thanks for that Kenny

I haven't looked at much AV receivers/speaker setups yet. Not really sure what I am looking at to be honest. I would say the most I would be able to spend would be about 500-600eur on a system, which was why I was looking at an all-in-one setup really. Just really want to allow future upgrades or replacements if something breaks to be trouble free.

One thing that drives me mental though is having a load of remotes? Like I was tempted to get an all-in-one system from a brand like LG, Sony, etc and get one of their TV's solely so the one remote could operate everything.
