NDLS centre, do you have to book?

Just wondering can I just walk into the NDLS centre tomorrow without booking an appointment to get my permit licence? It says on the website 'walk-in' and then '60' beside it, I presume that's available spaces? I'm so confused !

You don't officially have to book but those who do have priority. So if you don't, either go in first thing in the morning or go in no later than the early afternoon with time on your hands.

I'm aiming to be in there for 9. I don't know if I'll have to wait long though?

9 is when they open and I don't believe you'll have to wait very long when you get there early. Why don't you let us know how you get on.

My experience - I went there without any appointment as none was available to book on-line. There was an electronic q on the premises for those who had no appointment. (You just type your name, remember your number and wait to be called to the counter.) People with appointment did not have to join that q, they were just called to the counter now and then.

Make sure you turn up for opening. You'll most likely already find people there, but it shouldn't take long. I had to wait for about 10 or so people, so 40 mins I'd say. Just don't turn up for midday (like everyone does) or you'll be there forever

If you go in just as it opens in the morning you'll more then likely get seen straight away, that's what i did!

Found it great when I had an appointment much easier and it was PACKED the tuts when she called me :)

I walked in two weeks ago because I found the appointment system very disappointing- for the centre I wanted there were only two days free in the entire month and both were really inconvenient for me. It didn't seem to give an option to allow you to book beyond that month and I was anxious to get it asap.

I went in a little bit later than planned- about half ten- and was in and out in just under an hour which I felt was more than reasonable. Glad I chanced it. Like others have said seems to be better the earlier you can be.
