I know two people with below the knee amputee both had left leg done. They both drive automatic no clutch so only need use one pedal at a time.

Are you sure you'll have the necessary feel and control with a prosthetic leg to operate the brake and throttle? I would have thought losing the right would be a greater disadvantage actually. I feel you might be better of committing to an auto and using your left leg for the pedals but I'm sure there are specialists or consultants you have access to that could point you in the right direction.

Assuming you get the advice you need, from the licence point of view (assuming you have a full licence) you'll need to apply for 'change of medical details' and apply to the NDLS with the D401 (normal application for a driver licence form) ticking the relevant medical questions. You'll have to get the usual stuff (proof of ppsn, proof of address if you've moved, your old licence etc) and submit a D501 medical report that your doctor or specialist has filled out and stamped.

You will get the same licence terms back again (assuming the doctor signs you off on a new card but you'll have the 101 notation for getting the licence on the back of a medical report and 03 notation denoting that you have a prosthesis. If you find out you have go down the road of hand throttle controls or the like you'll also end up with a 100 notation (in fact if the doctor insists you need to drive an automatic from now on, I think you get the 100 notation covers this instead of the 78-auto transmission only which is more constrictive).

In a nutshell, get the D501 filled out by the relevant doctor or specialist and the NDLS side of it is a doddle.
