Very sad news that legendary engineer Peter Gibney passed away on Saturday April 4th.

From Engineering KELO in the 70s then to Sunshine Hot Hits 101 in the pirate era to Classic Hits 98FM,Atlantic 252 in the legal era and part of the BTS team that built RedFM,Spin1038 & Country 106.8 to name but a few.

    Peter RIP

Nice tributes and anecdotes over on the radiotoday.ie website.

One story not mentioned is when Classic Hits originally got allocated 105.5FM and Peter Gibney got his hands on a load of radios that could not tune to 105.5 and persuaded the powers that be to allocate 98.1 instead !

Sorry to hear the news about Gibbo's passing.
He really was 1 of the good guys I first met him in Swords a long time ago and then our paths crossed again over in the Brown Derby and the last time I saw him was in the Issac Hostel up on the top floor working on a rig. My lasting memory of him was his love of music from the 60s in particular the songs from 1967 in his own words the best year in music.

RIP Gibbo you will be missed.

Only recently heard this. Was quite shocked. Knew him in the Radio Caroline Dublin days. RIP Peter.

**edit just remembering - he loved the film 'Young Frankenstein'. I remember going to a double bill of it and 'Blazing Saddles' with him.
