Circular roof light and upstand

I'm shocked by the price I got for a circular roof light. One company quoted nearly €3,000 for a 900mm diameter roof light.
Then another company said it could supply the glass unit for approx. €100 but the builder would have to build the upstand. Will this work? Is the upstand something easy enough to build or will the builder end up charging thousands for it?
And most importantly, will the €3,000 roof light be better water tight than the other option?
What type of problems can I expect if going for the cheaper alternative?

Most people put in standard square ones and have the plasterboard underneath made round. Look great, a fraction of the price and come with full warranties. I can pm you photos of award wining architecture projects in Ireland that have done this if you want. It's impossible to tell they are square unless you fly over in a helicopter.

anything off standard on rooflights will cost as they are a nightmare to seal and if not done properly, you will end up paying multipals of the value in repairs

Do consider air-tightness and insulation continuity, roof light detailing is often a weak spot in thermal design: hot moist air rises, condensing on the coldest spot.

Dudda, that sounds like a great idea. Would love to see photos if you don't mind sending them.
