    Hi all,

I got some good advice here before, so back for more; Mods please move to more suitable section if this is not the best spot.

I'm looking for advice for new games for a lad turning 9. I'm not a gamer so not sure what to get him next. He's done the Mario and Pokémon games and I he's looking for something new/challenging. Would the Zelda games be an option? He's very capable but I'm wondering are they a step too far? From reading reviews they look quite challenging but would they just totally frustrate him? Also, which one is the best introduction?

Open to all suggestions; many thanks.

maybe ocarina of time 3d might be a good introduction him? , the 3ds version has hints built into the game through things called sheikah stones, they show a little bit of a hint via small video clues. like this

he could use them if hes really stuck

I personally think that Zelda A Link Between Worlds is one of the best, if not the best 3ds game & is very kid friendly.

Luigis mansion 2 is brilliant as are any of the Lego themed games

my nephews like smash bros, it's a fighting game with game characters like yoshi and less-interesting ones like mario, the metroid guy, princess link and all that.

Dunno how some parents feel about cartoon violence.

As with all suggestions, it really depends what type of games he is into.

I personally found Ocarina of Time incredibly frustrating however A Link Between Worlds is fantastic. As mentioned, Luigi's Mansion is a must buy.

Another recommendation is Mario Golf: World Tour. I've played about 30 hours so far! Highly addictive.

It sounds like we're recommending a lot of Mario games but they are completely different than your conventional run and jump platformers.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. He has a lot of the Mario games and Smash Bros, which he adores. He's very keen on Zelda but I was afraid that Ocarina of Time would be very frustrating, just based on the reviews I read.

A Link between Worlds seems like a great option; would it be considered more straight-forward than The Ocarina of Time?

Kid Icarus might be a good buy, especially if he liked Super Smash Bros, as they share a lot, coming from the same developer.
It is an on rails shooting game, with some free roaming battles as well.
Another cracking one is Luigi's Mansion 2, and the likes of Street Fighter IV and Tekken, both of which are fighting games and cheap to buy.

Kid Icarus was one he mentioned himself so it's great that it's getting a recommendation. I thought Luigi's Mansions looked silly to my uneducated eyes but it's getting a lot of support here so thanks for that too.

I don't like the 3D Zeldo games, link between worlds is great.

A Link between worlds. It's more newbie friendly than Ocarina or Majora.
