Joining the AA - are there more benefits than 'Roadside Assistance' when fully Comp?

I do a lot of mileage (60,000+ km per year) and have recently been thinking of joining the AA just in case of breakdown or accident etc...

I have roadside assistance on my insurance so was wondering what are the benefits to joining the likes of AA considering I already have this.

I went into their website hoping to find out info but I'm still not sure as to their worth.

Can anyone advise on whether or not they think it's worth joining and what they offer?

    Thanks.

Home start or home recovery whatever they call it theses days. Thats all i can see is the only real difference. Im a member of the AA and I have the Home start, recovery etc.......Im not sure of what else I have........I really must look at it more closely :D I find the AA in general fine to deal with it. I wouldnt really join it if you already benefits with your insurance company unless you after something specific that your insurance company dont provide.

I think one of the main benefits of the AA is that it's you that's covered as opposed to your car. So if you were in your friend's car, and it broke down, you can still call the AA as long as you have your card.

Breakdown assist with your insurance will do for most things though

Total waste of money, service in some areas is shockingly poor.

Discount on insurance through AA also. I've had it for the last few years.

They don't even check if you are an AA member when you use the AA for insurance.

Yeah they give you a discount if you are an AA member you usually have to be talking to them on the phone for the question to be asked.

My wife gets the "discount" and she's not a member. It isn't actually a discount its a discounted policy through iirc RSA, you can't get a policy from another company with them and then expect a discount.

It used to be AIG that did the discounted policy but when AA stopped quoting for them AIG gave its AA insurance customers another 20% to stay with them.

They are a broker, they deal with about 4 different insurers at any one time. I was on the phone to them saturday, currently AXA and Aviva are amongst the ones they check.

Not sure of how the discount works to be honest just that it was offered over the phone the other day.

I have home start/rescue and roadside on my insurance policy (through a broker). Have used it a few times over the years and never a bother - they even had a guy out to me in under an hour on Chistmas morning when I came out to a flat tyre in Beaumont Hospital - as usual the nuts were "welded" on by the last guy with the air gun, plus it was a long night.
